Meet your teacher

Heather has been teaching music for over 20 years and loves to help all students to reach their personal goals with music!

Since 1999, Heather has been guiding students toward success both in exams and performing, with some students even moving on to study at the Sydney Conservatorium (Tertiary), the Sydney Jazz Course, at the acclaimed WAAPA (Western Australia Academy of Performing Arts), and others going on to have professional performance careers.

Growing up around her musical parents, Rod (Jazz Saxophonist /Dungeon Big Band) and Jennifer Barnes (PhD Vocal Science, former Principal with Opera Australia), Heather learned the art of teaching through sitting in on their lessons from birth. She has completed classical grades up to A.Mus.A, as well as a Bachelor of Music as part of her formal training. Her experience in such a wide range of genres (from singing and playing bass on the catwalk in Milan, to classical performance with some of Australia’s leading orchestras) means she is equipped to help out EVERY student that walks through the door, or onto the screen.

Heather specialises in HSC Music mentoring and enjoys watching the transformation that happens for many students in the 12 months that lead up to this important exam. Heather is deeply passionate about the life enriching quality of music, meaning that all students have so much to gain from learning, no matter their age or current ability level.

What people say about Heather’s teaching

Time and time again I have seen Heather work miracles with HSC music students. She has helped many vocal, piano and double bass players to develop incredible HSC programs and receive outstanding HSC results. Heather has the ability to find the most appropriate and individual repertoire for her students. She matches ability and interest, but also encourages her students to take on challenges and try new and often quirky repertoire.
Sarah Reeve, Head of Music, Hunter School of Performing Arts
Heather Price has been my daughter’s music teacher for the past six years. She provides a professional, caring, fun and supportive environment for music education. Heather’s extensive experience and knowledge along with her very natural and effective coaching style makes her an outstanding music teacher.
Jenny (mother of Brynn, 14)
Heather is an incredible teacher who gives me the freedom to choose the direction I want to take with my music. I have learnt so much from Heather over the past 5 years from general music knowledge and performance skills to exploring entirely new repertoire. Heather always has the best advice and I feel so lucky to have her as my teacher.
